REVIEW: Grown Below – The Long Now

Grown Below – The Long Now

CD 2011 Slow Burn Records

Grown Below is an Antwerp based metal band that arose from the ashes of Timer in early 2011. They released their debut album ‘The Long Now’ in September on the Russian post metal label Slow Burn Records.

Influenced by bands as Tool, Cult of Luna and Isis, Grown Below offers us more than 1 hour of slow, dark and atmospheric sludge/post-rock. Although I like (doom)metal, I’m not a big fan of most of the dragging and monotonous sludge/post-rock music. On ‘The Long Now’, these slower, sometimes monotonous, peaceful acoustic parts alternate nicely with the heavier ones. It are dose eruptions of heaviness and the story: an alternate version of the end of the world sagas’ that makes ‘The Long Now’ interesting.

  1. Trojan Horses

  2. Devoid Of Age

  3. The abyss
