REVIEW: Nevermind Nessie – s/t

Nevermind Nessie – s/t

demo CD 2010

Within the (Celtic)folk and folk punk genre I’m familiar with some traditional Irish folk songs, bands and singers like Paddy Reilly, The Pogues, The Dubliners, The Real McKenzies, Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, Neck, The Porters, Flatfoot 56 and so on. Besides the Black Tartan Clan I wasn’t familiar with any other Belgium Celtic folk inspired bands until I met Nevermind Nessie.

Nevermind Nessie is a Belgium band that gets his musical inspiration from traditional folk and (punk)rock. They combine traditional rock instruments (bass, electric guitar, drums) with acoustic folk instruments (violin, whistle and diatonic accordion. A combination that isn’t new but only a few can make it work. Nevermind Nessie belongs to this last category of can-make-it-work-bands.

Their s/t demo CD consists of 5 strong, well-arranged and up tempo party/love songs. The music is catchy and makes you want to dance and sing along, I can’t find a bad song on this demo.

To conclude, Nevermind Nessie is a very promising folk(punk)rock band that has released a good demo. Also live they can stand their ground, so go check them out and pick up this demo.
