REVIEW: Lay It On The Line – Crowhurst

coverLay It On The Line – Crowhurst
2013 digital/LP on Fire Engine Records

‘Lay It On The Line’ is a South London based hardcore band who so far released a demo, an EP, a mini album and a split EP with our own Arizona (B) in May 2013. Past July they released ‘Crowhurst’ on Vinyl through Fire Engine Records. The album is a concept record about Donald Crowhurst, a businessman who entered an around the world yacht race hoping to save his failing business. He ended up committing suicide during the race in 1969.

So, topic wise, Crowhurst isn’t your typical hardcore record because a concept album is not very common within the hardcore scene (besides bands like Defaeter, …). Also musically ‘Lay It On The line’ is more than just hardcore: they are certainly influenced by death and trash metal.

To be honest the album had to grow on me and after giving it a few spins, I’m getting more and more into it. It certainly is better that a lot of those been-there-done-that metalcore bands around nowadays. 7.5/10
